Voltage Pictures will be kicking off worldwide sales in TIFF on the thriller 1 Million Followers starring Shelley Q from DarkestAge and Evan Williams from Blonde.
Harvey Lowry’s (The Competition, Without A Body) thriller centres on Karissa, a small-town girl who is invited by a renowned influencer to a mansion in Thailand where the beautiful mingle as they build Karissa up to a million followers.
Things take a dark turn with the introduction of the guests’ mysterious sponsor (Henry Ian Cusick, Hitman, Lost) and true intentions are revealed. Paul Kim wrote the screenplay and production took place in Phuket, Thailand.
The cast includes Ryan Jamaal Swain (Pose), Jade Ma (The Swearing Jar, Black Widow), Constanza Palavecino, Patrick Atchison and Skye Ladell.
Serving as producers are Kelli Kaye (The Perfect Mark), Rachel Morgan (Gothic Harvest) and Lowry. Executive producers are Marius D’Gasco and Nuri Alibay.
“I wanted to explore the dark forces lurking behind social media and how it churns young people into a lifestyle of fame, sex and dark places, sometimes forgetting their roots,” said Lowry. “I took a voyeuristic approach, using the Fayme App as a character itself, to show how far outside their comfort zone someone would be willing to go to reach the elusive goal of one million followers, and the lucrative benefits that will follow”.
“It’s a timely, cautionary tale that will resonate with a wide audience,” said Alexandra Cocean, Voltage EVP of international sales and distribution. “Harvey has made a provocative thriller that exposes the darker side of the influencer world.”
Voltage’s film slate includes Roger Kumble’s adaption of YA novel Beautiful Disaster starring Dylan Sprouse and Virginia Gardner, and the sequel Beautiful Wedding, written and directed by Kumble and with the same leads, set for a 2024 release.
The roster also features YA adaptation Marked Men directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Chase Stokes, Sydney Taylor, and Alexander Ludwig and set for a 2024 release; and Aftermath directed by Patrick Lussier starring Sprouse, Mason Gooding and Dichen Lachman, which is also set for a 2024 release.
A small-town girl, Karissa (Shelley Q), receives the DM of a lifetime from famous influencer @JackofSpades (Evan Williams), who invites her to a mansion in Thailand to mingle with beautiful people and build her up to a million followers. The trip takes a dark turn when the true intentions of their mysterious sponsor, Daniel (Henry Ian Cusick), are revealed.

Henry Ian Cusick will visit CBS’ NCIS: Hawai’i for a season-ending arc that involves a blast from Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant’s CIA past.
TVLine has learned exclusively — and as seen in the first-look photos above and below — that Lost and MacGyver alum Cusick guest-stars in Season 2’s two-part finale as Supervisor Agent John Swift of the Office of Special Projects.
Swift enters the fray when Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) gets into some seriously hot water, after the team leader travels out of the country on a very personal case from her past.
Cusick’s role is described as open-ended, and may continue into Season 3, TVLine hears.
NCIS: Hawai’i‘s two-part season ender kicks off Monday, May 15, with the episode “Past Due,” in which the discovery of a dead former MI6 agent uncovers secrets from Tennant’s past, forcing her to go to extreme, aforementioned lengths to track down the responsible party.
Then in “Dies Irae,” airing May 22, a figure from Tennant’s CIA past re-emerges — Julie White’s “Aunt” Maggie Shaw — forcing the NCIS team to seek help from the most unlikely place in order to catch a killer who threatens to destroy everything Tennant has built.
White’s character was last seen midway through Season 1 of the CBS series, when Jane’s mentor was revealed to be a pit of a spy for the Chinese, and as such got remanded to the FBI.

“In an official statement, Morden shared his excitement
about doing this documentary and teased
that it will also be a celebration of the series’ accomplishments:”
“‘LOST’ was a show that meant so much to so many people, including me! It came at a time when we all still gathered around the tv week to week to find out what would happen next. I want to make a film that celebrates the impact that the show had on the pop culture landscape, examines the missteps, and perhaps reveals the true meaning of ‘LOST.’ Love it or hate it, ‘LOST’ was a pivotal show and paved the way for the new golden era of television that we all know and love today.”
