Chicago Stage Standard Review: ‘Dress’, a New Film Directed by and Starring Henry Ian Cusick

‘Dress’, a new film directed by and starring Henry Ian Cusick

DRESSFINAL

Dress is a lovely short film written (with Susan Stanton), directed and starring Henry Ian Cusick, best known from his work in Lost. The simple theme is beautifully executed with terrific cinematography, a lovely score (by Michael Giacchino and Grant Lee Phillips) and a fine supporting cast (Loretta Ables, Ho’Ano Au, Asher Morgado) set in in Hawaii where Cusick now lives.

Cusick plays a young father with two children dealing with the loss of his wife. Within moments you are drawn into the family’s pain, and the way each member manages that pain is humorous and heartbreaking.

Dress plays as part of the 2014 Peace on Earth Film Festival (POEFF), presented by Transcendence Global Media, NFP, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.  The sixth annual festival takes place at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Claudia Cassidy Theater, 78 East Washington, Thursday, March 6 through Sunday, March 9. Dress will be shown on Friday, March 7, at 10:20 p.m. Learn more at: www.peaceonearthfilmfestival.org. All screenings are free and open to the public.
